CMS required that all carriers implement increases that were signed into law as a part of the healthcare reform bill by July 6th, 2010. Those increases included a 2% across the board increase for urban ambulance services, 3% across the board increase for rural services, and the 3% across the board plus 22.6% increase on base rates for super rural agencies. In addition to these increases the geographical practice cost index or GPCI was upwardly adjusted which will result in further reimbursement increases for ambulance companies.
